Advent Family Devotions

This blog is designed for individuals and families to share in discussion around the lighting of the Advent wreath. This may happen at a dinner table or in the living room. The goal is to get everyone talking and reading scripture together. There will be 5 devotionals a week and a prepartion day for the following Sunday on Saturday. We (Pastor Matt & Pamm Anderson) hope these devotions will help you and your family connect with God and each other this Advent Season.

Peace- Day 2: God Promises Peace

November 30, 2015

Dashing through the snow, in the family mini-van to Christmas parties and concerts we go. Christmas presents to buy and maybe the kids are starting to cry… It seems that we have a lot to do throughout this season. Do you ever feel like there is an endless list of things to do and even though you check it off it seems to get longer and longer?

How do you deal with those times when you feel really busy?

Isaiah 54:10 says:

For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed,

but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

God promises many things to us first is that he loves us and God will always be with us. The second is that God’s peace will never be removed. Even though there are many lists to check off and much dashing through the snow, and even though the world may be crazy God promises he is always there, his love never fails, and he will give us peace.

How has God given you peace? How has he quieted you and made you feel his presence and love?

God promises us peace in our busy and chaotic world.

Light the candle of peace and remember the times God has given you peace.

Pray together thanking God for his promise of peace. Ask God to give you opportunities throughout this Advent season to experience his calm loving presence during times of busyness and craziness.
