What brings you the biggest joy at Christmas time? Is it the lights, the trees, the holiday parties, the music? Maybe it’s the gifts?
What is the best gift you have ever been given? Think of all the feelings that came to you when you opened that gift. Share about that gift and why it meant so much to you.
Now think about the best gift you’ve ever given. What were the emotions/feelings you felt while the other person was opening that gift? Share about that experience and why it’s the best gift you’ve ever given.
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
Advent is about preparing and anticipating the joy of our newborn Savior and his second coming to earth. Paul reminds us to rejoice and give thanks always. So as we prepare for worship tomorrow and for the advent (arrival) of the celebration of Christ’s birth and second coming, let us be joy-filled and thankful, always.
Light the Candle of Joy (the pink one)
Pray: Lord, fill us with joy and anticipation to celebrate your coming. Fill our hearts with joy. Through the Holy Spirit, grant us opportunities to share how your joy transforms us in great ways. Help us give the gift of joy to others as we share the gift we have been given in Jesus Christ. Amen.
