Advent Family Devotions

This blog is designed for individuals and families to share in discussion around the lighting of the Advent wreath. This may happen at a dinner table or in the living room. The goal is to get everyone talking and reading scripture together. There will be 5 devotionals a week and a prepartion day for the following Sunday on Saturday. We (Pastor Matt & Pamm Anderson) hope these devotions will help you and your family connect with God and each other this Advent Season.

Candle of Hope- Day 3: Heroes of the Faith

December 23, 2015

Read Hebrew 11:1

This chapter in Hebrews is known as the Faith Hall of Fame.  If you take time to look at the whole chapter you will be reminded of the lives and actions of many notable men and women of faith.

Share about a person (living or dead) whose life has been an encouragement to you.

But faith does not mean copying what others have done; rather we should review these heroes of the Faith as a reminder that God uses each of us in special ways.  We each get to follow a unique path motivated by our hope for an eternal home with God.  Now a days if we need to go somewhere new we have a variety of technologies that prepare the way for us, but God’s Kingdom is not so easily found.  We know it is there and we know that many others have arrived before us, but the path we take is all our own.

What elements of your faith seem to be unique to you?

For thousands of years people hoped for a Messiah, and I am sure none of them would have imagined His humble entry into our world.  Now as we prepare to welcome Him again, there is no way of knowing what lies ahead.  Just being willing to follow and trust is a testament to the life changing power of God.

Light the candle of Hope

Pray, “Lord, for those people whose hope is lost.  Let our lives serve you in such a way as to encourage them.  Soften their hearts and show them that surrendering to the mystery of hope leads to a rock solid assurance.  Amen.”
