Advent Family Devotions

This blog is designed for individuals and families to share in discussion around the lighting of the Advent wreath. This may happen at a dinner table or in the living room. The goal is to get everyone talking and reading scripture together. There will be 5 devotionals a week and a prepartion day for the following Sunday on Saturday. We (Pastor Matt & Pamm Anderson) hope these devotions will help you and your family connect with God and each other this Advent Season.

Candle of Hope Day 4: What are you doing Christmas Eve?

December 24, 2015

What do you normally do on Christmas Eve? Does your family have a tradition that you always do on December 24th?

For some it involves going to church and enjoying the candlelight service while singing Silent Night. For others Christmas Eve is centered on a family gathering.

Share one of your favorite memories of Christmas Eve.

Today is Christmas Eve and we will most likely participate in something very similar to the memories you’ve just shared. Family will be gathered, people will stream into sanctuaries all over the country, and sing Silent Night with a candle in their hand.

As we prepare for Christmas Eve know that the prophet Isaiah had foretold of this birth hundreds of years before.

Read Isaiah 9:6-7

As we celebrate the night in which Christ was born, let us give thanks and praise to God the Father for sending Christ his son, the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Hope of the World, and Prince of Peace.

Light the Candle of Hope

Pray: Thank you God for this day in which we celebrate that Holy Night in which Christ was born. As we gather for our Christmas Eve, fill our hearts with excitement, joy, love, peace, and hope. Let us share those gifts with those we interact with not only on this day but every day as Christ is born in our hearts. Amen.
